Vinca

The familiar, brightly colored garden plant that goes by the common name of vinca is not really related to the true vincas at all. If you want a true vinca, you need to take a look at what is generally referred to as the vinca vine.

Vinca is a very hardy plant in got dry areas. It is not frost tolerant and actually grows very poorly in temperatures less than about 60 degrees, so this is a flower that is best planted only after the soil is warmed in late May.

If you want a plant that will withstand hot conditions, this is it. It only grows better as temperatures soar into the 90s. Even though it is drought tolerant, it still needs to have adequate moisture and you will have to keep an eye on the plants when the temperatures get high to make sure it doesn't wilt too badly.
