Plectranthus, Iboza, Candlestick Vine

The naming this plant gets complicated. It goes by at least three common names. The name of the genus is Plectranthus and is closely related to Swedish Ivy. The variety we offer is a variegated foliage plant that is a good substitute for vinca vine if you are looking for something a little different. Plectranthus is a little more "stiff" than vinca, so it trails a bit differently, but as it gets larger, it trails very nicely. Plectranthus does best if given partial shade but tolerates sun fairly well if the soil is kept moist. You should probably avoid direct afternoon sun during the hot part of the summer.

The plant's foliage has a distinctive odor so my wife has given it the additional name of Stink Vine. At least one variety of this plant is actually used in some types of cooking as a substitute for oregano. It's NOT a use that I can recommend.
